Fritzenberger (Brisbane, QLD)

52 Petrie Terrace, Brisbane, QLD, 4000

Fritzenberger Verdict: 8.5/10dsc022031

Beef Burger: 9/10

Chicken Burger: 8.5/10

Sides: 8/10

So why Fritzenburger?

He says: A Brisbane jaunt in honour of my darling Mum’s 60th birthday brought us here the day after the party (and all the party drinks). Am a big fan of the Harajuku Gyoza restaurants and this is the same team’s take on burger goodness.

dsc02201

She says: This was our saviour on an extremely hot day in Brissy. The lay out here is cool, front bar (with air-con) leads out to an open back area which, while too hot to eat in when we went, looks like a great place for a group of people and a bunch of burgs/beers.

dsc022051

What did you order?

  • The Fritzen Burger with Maple Syrup Candied Bacon c$13
  • The Chicken Burger – $12
  • The Loaded Frites – $10

dsc02213

Tell us about the Fritzen Burger?

He says: Great Burger. The patty melted in your mouth and had the perfect partner in the sensational Fritzensauce. The addition of the Maple Syrup Candied bacon should be made mandatory. The bun was a little on the dry side but it would take a whole lot more than that to bring the quality down on this little guy.

dsc02224

She says: You could tell by looking at this cutie it was going to be good. I didn’t mind the bun and I liked how soft it was and how much it compressed when you bit in. The star of this really was that candied bacon –  love that salty sweet!

dsc022191

So then, how did you find the Chicken Burger?

She says: The chicken looks pretty thick but it wasn’t too much. Nice crispy lettuce, fresh tomato, spicy sauce and a good hunk of american cheese meant this was a solid burger choice. Juicy chicken thighs with spicy mayo are a perfect pair.  Would eat again.

dsc022221

He says: Top stuff once more. I’d normally prefer my fried chicken fillet to be of the breast variety but the thighs got it done here and made me look like a fool. The spicy mayo lifted everything up another notch as well.

dsc022081

Now, what about the sides?

He says: These were as good as they sounded on the page: French fries loaded with cheese sauce, candied bacon, green onions, Fritzensauce and Twisties salt. YES, TWISTIES SALT!

She says:  Seconded.

Bernie’s Diner

|| 402 – 404 Argyle Street, Moss Vale, NSW, 2577 ||

dsc02092Bernie’s Diner Verdict: 6/10

Beef Burger: 7/10

Chicken Burger: 3/10

Sides: 7.5/10

So why Bernie’s Diner?

He says: A Southern Highlands sojourn beckoned and we would be batshit crazy if we didn’t check out what the area had to offer burger wise. According to the interwebs this was the spot.dsc02091

She says: When we go away, anything from a longish drive to an overnight stay, He always manages to find somewhere cool to get a burger. This place is great looking from the outside, old-school diner vibe and easy to find.

What did you order?

The Bernie’s Burger – $13

The Vegas Baby Burger – $11

Cheese Fries- $8

Vanilla Malt Thickshake – $8

dsc02102

Tell us about the Bernie’s Burger?

He says: Unlike the immaculate 50’s diner style architecture we were surrounded by in Bernie’s their namesake burger borrowed from the legends that are the classic Australian local milk bar/fish and chips shop burger. Think burger with the lot (including the quintessential stalwarts, bacon, egg, pineapple and cheese). Thoroughly enjoyable old school goodness here.

dsc02110

She saysHaving totally converted to pineapple on burgers, I was pretty excited to give this one a go. This burger was huge, had everything in it and would be totally passable for a hangover cure. If I was going to be picky I would mention the meat, which was a bit overcooked and oily.  But the cheese on this burger was plentiful and well melted, which makes such a difference and while it was not 100 percent my thing, I can see this burger having many loyal fans.

dsc02108

So then, how did you find the Vegas Baby Burger?

She says:  Its been a while since I have had chicken burger that didn’t blow me away and this burger left me a bit cold. The chicken inside seemed like it might have been pre-batered and frozen. It was super tasteless and could have been a fish finger. The lettuce did have a good crunch, I dig the shredded lettuce on a chicken burg but the cheese wasn’t melted properly and the mayonnaise was wrong tasting, it had that weird texture of the stuff they use in the RSL.  I found it really hard to find positives with this guy.

dsc02113

He says: Unfortunately this wasn’t my thing. Main issue would be they use a mayonnaise like the ones I used to fear at the school tuckshop (definitely not whole egg style). The chicken here also didn’t quite live up to expectations.

dsc02099

Now, what about the sides?

She says: The cheese fries are a thing of beauty, they are essentially just really hot chips with chese mixed thorugh to melt. They are rich as a social influencer at a yoga festival though so I would limit yourself to a few bites. Oh yeah – the thickshake, it was killer. I hogged the whole thing and it was worth it.

dsc02096

He says: The cheese fries were worth the trip alone and were nothing more than a generous serve of golden fries coated in a vat of melted cheese. The thickshake was also a cracker.

Brooklyn Depot

65 Holt Street, Surry Hills, NSW, 2010

dsc02058Brooklyn Depot Verdict: 8/10

Beef Burger: 8/10

Chicken Burger: 7.5/10

Sides: 8.5/10

So why Brooklyn Depot?

She says: He is just so good at this. I feel like I should have a permanent answer to this question that I cut and paste every time that says “He found this joint. He is a genius at burger stalking. I honestly believe He could find good burgers even if the internet didn’t exist”.

dsc02061

He says:  Convenient location and a great looking (American styled) menu made us heed the call to Brooklyn Depot.

dsc02062

What did you order?

  • The Depot Burger – $16
  • The Chicky Babe Burger – $14
  • Pimped Chicken Winglets – $10
  • Garbage Fries – $12
  • Maclovin Balls – $14
  • Gringo Shake – $8

dsc02079

Tell us about the Depot Burger?

He says:  I’m always appreciating some double patty action so was pretty stoked with this one. Unfortunately the patties definitely erred on the overcooked side of things. Massive fan of the addition of pineapple, hickory smoked bacon and a wonderful Depot special sauce. If only there was a bit more pink in that patty.

dsc02086

She saysI only ever order the double if my arm has been twisted (or if it has been so long between doubles that I feel bad). It really relies on the meat, the quality and how well it was cooked. Here the quality was pretty good but as he says it was a bit overcooked. Despite that I liked this burger, more so once I removed the second patty. And let it be known, I am a total pineapple convert – and with the bacon and the cheese, oh lordy!

dsc02075

So then, how did you find the Chicky Babe Burger?

He says: A solid burger with on point chicken, slaw and chipotle mayo. Not really a fan of the so called ‘cowboy caviar’ as its black bean flavour was a little jarring when combined with everything else here.

dsc02083

She says: I liked this burger – the beans were a little jarring but over all, crispy chook and cheese with coleslaw, always gets me.

dsc02068

Now, what about the sides?

He says: The winglets (we chose spicy buffalo sauce) were top notch, the garbage fries tasty as fuck, maclovin balls had their moments but were a little dull, and the Gringo shake was as delicious as it sounded on the menu.

dsc02071

She says:  The sides were super trashy and would be awesome to share with a big group – we were massive pigs and got heaps to ourselves.

Bangbang Cafe

DSC01872

Bangbang Cafe verdict: 9/10

Beef Burger: 9.2/10

Chicken Burger: 9/10

Sides: 7/10

So why The Bangbang Cafe?

She says He was having a rough morning so we decided to stay close-ish to home and try a burg that He has been talking about for ages. The photos of the burgers here looked just like the kind of thing required to feed this monstrous hangover.

DSC01873

He says: After demolishing schnitzels and way too many beers the night before my spectacular love, She, decided to drive my sorry hung-over ass over to Bangbang in Surry Hills. Turned out to be a great call.

DSC01874

What did you order?

  • The All Star Burger with Bacon – $17
  • The Fried Chicken Burger – $13.90
  • Chocolate Milkshake- $5

DSC01890

Tell us about the All Star Burger?

He says: Cheezus this was good! A terrific wagyu patty mingled with smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, added bacon and a mind blowingly good Bangbang sauce. My only complaint would be the bun had a touch of the ‘Sunday stales’ but that’s a minor quibble.  Seriously that sauce was truly banging (yeah I did it, soz)!

DSC01899

She saysThis was simple and delicious. Great tender meat with lots of sauce, the whole thing was really tasty.  held together well, the cheese was melted to perfection.  You should try these burgers, they are special.

DSC01884

So then, how did you find the Fried Chicken Burger?

She says: Wow. A very, very nice burger. The fried chicken was key, and there was just enough  of it. It was tender and moist and would have been awesome even by itself. Double cheese, crunchy coleslaw, lettuce and tomato topped with generous lashings of  saucy-mayo goodness. The filling worked perfectly with the crunchy chicken. Very solid work.

DSC01894

He says: Really fucking great hangover tonic this one as well with the stars being the buttermilk chicken and the Sriracha sauce coleslaw. The bun had the same issue but the once again the Bangbang sauce smashed it out of the park.

DSC01889

Now, what about the sides?

She says: The chips were perfectly suitable, nothing special but just right. Macca’s style with lots of salt. The milkshake was the only let down of this whole meal. I am not sure if it was on the menu. Because of his fairly average feels, He just ordered it (said like it was his dying wish) so perhaps the waitress just whipped it up to try and cheer him up. Anyway had a bit of the hot-chocolate-powder-mixed-with-milk vibe that my ma used to try and sneak past us as kid. No mum, milkshakes have lots and lots of ice cream and are made in a blender!

DSC01882

He says: Not much by way of the sides but the fries served with the burger (great value for money here) were on point and a force to be reckoned with when doused in aioli. The shake was more of an iced chocolate than a milkshake but the sugar hit still sated my post inebriation thirst.

Burgers Anonymous

DSC01812Burgers Anonymous verdict: 8.5/10

Beef Burger: 8.5/10

Chicken Burger: 8.5/10

Sides: 8.5/10

So why Burgers Anonymous?

He says:  A long gestating proposal to share a burger with the awesome Bianca from For Food’s Sake resulted at us hitting up Burger’s Anonymous.

DSC01810

She says: Like he says, it was almost the burger date that never happened. But then it did, and it was a heap of fun.

DSC01783

What did you order?

  • The Eazy-E Burger with Crack Bacon – $14
  • The Chooklyn Burger with cheese – $15
  • Maple Mayhem Chicken Wings – $8
  • Loaded Fries – $6

DSC01792

Tell us about the Eazy-E Burger?

He says:  This was great without being outstanding. Pretty close to an upmarket Hungry Jacks burger in taste. I’d prefer a softer bun and the patty a little more on the pink side but these are minor quibbles. The BA sauce raised the game tenfold and you’d be a total dick if you didn’t add crack bacon to this bad boy.

DSC01803

She saysPretty solid burger, not outstanding but if I lived close by this would definitely be one of my staples. The insides were great but I think the bun let it down. I wasn’t crazy about the bun on either of these burgers, it was perhaps a bit too ry?

DSC01798

So then, how did you find the Chooklyn Burger?

She says: That piece of chicken was huge, and cooked really well! This burger was easily my favourite, nice crisp salad, great warm cheese  and tonnes of sauce. Again, a solid burger that you would go back for.

DSC01809

He says:  A chicken schnitzel styled patty that did wonders when combined that BA sauce and sweet BBQ. Again a bit of a bun issue here but damn if it was freaking delicious.

DSC01788

Now, what about the sides?

She says: The chicken wings were great – sticky and sweet but with nice moist chicken inside. The fries were decadent and delicious however not for the faint hearted (they would be great friends with a hangover.)

DSC01800

He says: I was a massive fan of both of these. The loaded fries had the aforementioned bang on BA sauce (seriously you dunk anything in this and it would taste delicious) with Crack Bacon and I’m a fan of a sweet and spicy combo when it comes to wings these were right up my alley.

Big Daddy’s Burger Bar

DSC01728Big Daddy’s Burger Bar verdict: 6/10

Beef Burger: 5/10

Chicken Burger: 6/10

Sides: 7/10

So why Big Daddy’s?

He says: Being a Newtown local I’d seen this place coming up and had gawked in with interest every time I walked past. I’m a sucker for American styled diner food and when I came across a few solid reviews online there were no longer any excuses to avoid Big Daddy’s.

DSC01726

She says:  As you can see form the photos this place has a lot going on. we managed to snag a booth (because booths are the way to go) and hid up the back with our hangovers.

DSC01725

What did you order?

  • The SAYMYNAME Burger – $12
  • The Honey Mustard Chicken Burger – $12
  • Cheesy Fries- $8
  • 3 Chicken Wings – $7
  • Rock Salt Caramel Shake – $6

DSC01714

Tell us about the SAYMYNAME Burger?

He says: Unfortunately this was really disappointing. The bun was a touch on the stale side, the patty was both way overcooked and lacking flavour (or quality meat) and there was nowhere near enough mayo. We did decide to get this one without the mushrooms (She is not a fan) so maybe that threw the flavour profile out but somehow I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the problem.

DSC01723

She saysThis burger wasn’t at all my thing. The meat was the worst part. I’ll leave it at that.

DSC01705

So then, how did you find the Honey Mustard Chicken Burger?

She says: This was my preferred burger of the two (which is strange because I am not usually a fan of a grilled chicken burg) but it was still just ok. The chicken was well cooked, staying soft and moist (urgh, sorry). The mayo sauce however wasn’t quite right, it was a bit overpowering.  The bun let both of these burgers down and the shredded lettuce had a real left-out-overnight vibe. Also, there wasn’t much going on flavour wise, mostly due to the overwhelming sauce, there wasn’t a point of difference to lift the flavours.

DSC01718

He says: Very fast food styled but relatively tasty. The chicken seemed as if it was poached (or maybe just microwaved) but was juicy. The addition of cheese worked well but again the burger needed more mayo.

DSC01697

Now, what about the sides?

She says: The milkshake was the saving grace of this meal, if the sides score was purely on the milkshake alone they would have received a 9.5 from me. It was super thick, rich and featured nuggets of honeycomb at the bottom, which you got in every sip and spoke to me as a hokey-pokey ice cream fan. The curly fries were good on their own, and the cheese-in-a-can sauce has a weird place in my heart (next the canned spaghetti jaffles) but the bits of bacon sprinkled on top were no good. They were that dry, pink, strange bacon bits you get in your Bakers Delight cheese and bacon roll that should never be served outside such a bready home. The blue sauce that came with the chicken wings will haunt my nightmares for years to come, but the wings alone were alright – average pub food style.

DSC01715

He says: A real mixed bag. The cheesy curly fries (with a whole heap of cheese sauce, sour cream and bacon on top) did the job but weren’t as good as they threatened to be upon first glance. The chicken wings were oily but did hit the spot although I’d avoid the weird blue cheese sauce next time. The Rock Salt Caramel shake was the highlight of the meal and was reminiscent of a certain ice cream flavour She seemed particularly fond of.

Bare Grill

DSC00984

Bare Grill verdict: 9/10

Beef Burger: 9.4/10

Other Beef Burger: 8.5/10

Sides: 7/10

So why The Bare Grill?

She says: Finding this little gem was all Him and his near obsessive scouring of the internet. Bare and Grill is out of the way for us but we had friends in town (Hi Dan and Dre!) and had an out of town wedding to head to, so thought we would stop in on the way.

DSC01001

He says: The sight of these banging hot looking burgers were becoming ubiquitous on the net of late (easily attributed to this place due to the ‘branding’ in the buns). Also hadn’t been to La Perouse and, with some friendly overseas visitors in tow, this served as the first stop en route to a Kiama wedding.

What did you order?

  • The Fatties Burger – $13
  • The Outback Burger – $15
  • Malt Milkshake- $5.50
  • Chips – $4

DSC00989

Tell us about the Fatties Burger?

He says: I was expecting this to be solid but was taken aback by how delicious it was. The patties were thick, juicy, cooked to perfection and formed an irresistible union with the bacon, cheese and pickles. The house sauce ranked as one of the great burger sauces of the Southern Hemisphere and luckily for all involved they were very generous with it. Possibly a smaller and softer style milk bun might rank this bad boy even higher but all in all a sensational burger.

DSC00997

She saysThis burger is seriously good. It was a double patty burger so I used my usual ‘just take one out’ approach (will offer courses in this technique somewhere down the road). The remaining patty had that great char grilled taste and sat at the perfect point between good greasy and bad greasy. The sauces were just right, and all the flavours balanced well. The bun did tend to fall apart a little but that was really the only criticism. Great bacon. Great cheese. Great burger.

DSC00987

So then, how did you find the Outback Burger?

He says: I was more of a fan of this than She. This one featured the aforementioned exceedingly on point patty and house sauce and pushed in the direction of a quintessentially ‘Aussie’ styled burger (egg, bacon, tomato, sautéed onion, lettuce and beetroot relish). Maybe a bit too much going on here but if you’re into an Oz styled burger with the lot methinks you’d fall for this one.

DSC00995

She says: This burger was good but not so much my thing. It was still pretty good but it lacked that balance and near perfection of the first burger. The extra ingredients seemed to be thrown on willy-nilly and for me for some reason the egg just didn’t work.

DSC00992

Now, what about the sides?

She says:  The milkshake and chips were perfectly fine, no complaints!

He says:  Chips were fairly standard but delicious nonetheless (make sure you get a side of house sauce to dip them into). Malt milkshake was appropriately rich as well.

Burgers By Josh Pop Up

burgersbyjoshimageBurgers By Josh Pop Up verdict: 9/10

Beef Burger: 9.4/10

Other Beef Burger: 8.5/10

Sides: 9/10

[Photo credit: Burgers by Josh Facebook Page]

So why Burgers By Josh?

He says: We missed his tenure at Danno’s in Dee Why and his various pop ups throughout Sydney and, after hearing nothing but rapturous recommendations about this guys burgers, there was no fucking way we were missing him this time.

She says:  Josh’s reputation precedes him. His work at Danno’s was received so well that we look like big idiots having missed it (well, Dee Why though… come on!). Also – I work in the veritable food desert that is North Sydney so any chance to see Him during the work day AND eat a burg is not to be sniffed at! (Note: Burgers by Josh have announced they will be open at North Sydney’s Upperdeck through the month of January, so get in quick!)

What did you order?

  • The J Burger – $13
  • The Infamous Primo Burger – $20
  • Jurassic Fries – $12

burg 1

Tell us about the J Burger?

She says: Firstly, the actual burger in real life is not blurred. The burger here is blurred because of my excitement to get stuck in. And I was right to be exited. This was a lovely little burger. Good soft bun, the perfect amount of melted American cheese, great pickles and a good sharp onion. And awesome amount of really flavoursome J Sauce. This was one of the few burgers that did not leave us wishing for more sauce.

He says: An exercise in simplicity that serves as an instant classic. I’d sleep on a pillow of patties like this and don’t even start me on the J Sauce. Great stuff.

DSC00793 (1)

So then, how did you find the Infamous Primo Burger?

He says: I love a double patty but there seemed like there was maybe just too much going on here for my liking. Everything on its own (bacon, iceberg lettuce, double American cheese, onion rings, jalapenos and jalapeno poppers) was sound but I could maybe survive by dropping one. Still this was another great burger nonetheless.

Inside burg 2

She says: It’s no secret that I just put up with the double patty because I know He loves them, and really, how hard is it just top remove a patty? Well – actually here it was pretty hard because the patties were expertly glued together with melted American cheese slices. So – my burger fell apart, but it was still good, but it was so rich it made me wish we had post-burger snooze hammocks at work. It is like the J Burger on steroids and dressed to party. So maybe only order it if you are on steroids and dressed to party.

fries

Now, what about the sides?

She says: As the person who ate most of the Jurassic fries I can report that they were pretty bloody more-ish. The type of snack where you aren’t quite sure about at first but then you keep going back until they are nearly gone and He isn’t back from feeding the meter so you have to spread the remaining fries around to make it look like you didn’t eat quite so many. But then you eat more of the spread out fries and the game is up, He comes back you are obviously a guts who ate all the fries!

He says: These were next level. Perfectly crisp beer battered fries coated in the respectively magnificent cheese and Primo sauces.

The Erko

DSC00449The Erko Verdict: 6/10

Beef Burger: 4/10

Brisket Burger: 7/10

Sides: 7/10

So why The Erko?

She says:  I really like the feel of the Erko – it has that great old Aussie pub vibe, the staff are really friendly and it never feels like its packed with dickheads. It’s family friendly and spacious.  We have been here a couple of times to try the BBQ meats (totally worth a try) and the burgers looked impressive as they went past. (…okay yes, also we are lazy and it’s close to home.)

DSC00448

He says:  Not only conveniently located for us but also a cracking location for smoked meats and many beers in the past. Surely the burgers would follow suit?

 What did you order?

  • The Erko Cheese Burger – $19
  • The Brisket Burger – $22
  • Pulled Pork Poutine- $16

DSC00437

Tell us about the Erko Cheese Burger?

He says: Really disappointing. The patty was like and oversized (and cooked) pepper rissole with extra pepper. Seriously, the pepper in this one pretty much negated the taste of every other ingredient. Was also near impossible to hold.

DSC00438

She saysYeah, this was a massive let down. It looked good and I was pumped for a classic burger with that good greasy flavourful meat patty backed up by some strong flavour friends in the cheese, bacon and sauces. But, sadly no such luck. The bacon was hard to taste, the sauce was M.I.A. and the cheese, while it looked promising from the outside but when I bit into it, it actually wasn’t melted very much and wasn’t very strong or bitey. I don’t think I’ll be going for this one again.

DSC00433

So then, how did you find the Brisket Burger?

He says: The brisket itself was on point but didn’t really seem to work with the rest of the ingredients. The brisket was carved into two distinctly shaped pieces and didn’t seem to fit well in the burger which hence meant there were a whole lot of meatless bites which in itself is nothing short of a tragedy.

DSC00442

She says: Better than the Cheese Burger because the meat was the good, smokey brisket chunks, this burger still wasn’t awesome (sorry canned beetroot but you are going to have to do more than this to win me over). He is right about the logistical issues that we faced with the meat to rest ratio. It was hard to eat and not that much fun.

DSC00428Now, what about the sides?

She says:  Firstly at the risk of getting all food bloggy, this is not traditional poutine. The traditional dish is fries and cheese curds with a “gravy-like” sauce (thanks Wikipedia). Instead the Erko’s poutine is fries, gravy, pulled pork and just normal melted cheese. Perhaps it’s my childlike fascination with that RSL/nursing home flavour of powdered gravy (which is both amazing and disgusting at the same time), or that I just think any meal whose basis is fries is incredible, but there is something about this poutine. I can’t decide if I love it or hate it… I was leaning more towards love this day as I had a teensy bit of a hangover, which this dish is pretty much made for.

DSC00443

He says: Have had the poutine a few times before and it was just as tasty as usual. A big shout out to the aioli which, in my opinion, resides near the top of the garlic mayonnaise kingdom for the year.

Five Points

IMG_6982Five Points Verdict: 9/10

Beef Burger: 9/10

Chicken Burger: 7.5/10

Sides: 8.5/10

So why Five Points?

She says: I work in North Sydney and talk about burgers and this blog at work A LOT (it’s kind of a one lady direct marketing plan that I figured out, basically I hound people until they follow or subscribe (heeeey you should also subscribe – it’s just down on the right hand side of the page)). Anyway it is a bit shameful that we hadn’t been there yet but I blame Five Points for not opening on the weekend. So He came in to meet me one lunch time and gave them a go. The line at 12:30 on a Friday was not as bad as I had warned him but after we ordered the place went crazy.

IMG_6953

He says: This has been our go to list since it opened but the weekday hours have made it inconvenient. Finally we were presented with an opportunity for a lovely Friday lunch jaunt and had to take it. To say I was expecting big things would be an understatement.

What did you order?

  • The Bronx Burger – $12.50
  • The Queens Burger – $11
  • Beer Battered Fries – $4
  • Salted Caramel Milkshake – $6

IMG_6961

Tell us about the Bronx Burger?

He says: Undeniably a solid burger and I was a massive fan of the patty in particular. The aioli, onion jam, bun and cheese are also worth a mention (although I could have done with more of the two sauces). The whole thing was let down by the bacon which was both hard and cold. On another day (and perhaps with lower expectations) I assume this would climb a little higher on my ‘loved’ list.

She saysThis burger came out looking like a regular old burger beauty queen. That cheese – it was almost too much. This was one of those moments where I want to eat first, photo later (and that is why you might notice a little blur here and there. Big sorry!) And when I tasted it first thought was, ‘Good burger’. I was ready not to love the brioche looking bun but it worked well and the onion jam really wasn’t too sweet. The meat was cooked just right, but He is on the money, hard bacon stole some points from this burger. Oh and the pickles were nice counterpoint – without them it could have verged on entering Too-Salty Town.

So then, how did you find the Queens Burger?

She says: The new OBM motto, decided on just now is ‘More Sauce!’ and it is perfect for this very situation. This burger wasn’t up there with my faves – not even my favorite grilled chicken burgers (see Sould burger for great chicken). It was let down by a) the sauce b) the same bacon problems as before c) less cheese and e) just general meh chook. Totally edible and a filler if you for some reason don’t want beef but I would never order it over the Bronx.

He says: Would have much preferred the chicken to have been fried here as its grilled counterpart was rather dry. Again had the same issue with the bacon as with the Bronx burger. Would stick to just their beef burgers in the future.

 Now, what about the sides?

He says: The beer battered chips had me all nostalgic with their hotel room service on overdrive type vibe and were lifted even further by the aioli dipping sauce. Salted caramel shake was as good as they come.

She says: Hotel fries!! Always a winner and make me want a club sandwich. The milkshake was good – salty and sweet just how I like ’em.
